The Shape of Resilience.
What remains of us after life has changed us forever? Can we become whole again—or do we become someone new?The Shape of Resilience is an ongoing mixed-media portrait series exploring identity, emotional transformation, and the invisible experiences that shape who we become. Each work begins as a complete portrait before being physically torn apart and carefully reconstructed. The visible fractures remain, acknowledging that healing does not erase the past—it becomes part of our identity. In selected works, cotton threads extend this visual language. They may bind, connect, tangle, or reach beyond the edges of the portrait, becoming metaphors for invisible emotional ties, unspoken words, memory, attachment, silence, and the complex relationships that continue to shape us long after moments of change.Rather than depicting a single story, the series invites viewers to recognize their own experiences within each portrait. Every face becomes a reflection of resilience—not as perfection restored, but as the quiet courage to exist, transform, and continue.Technique: Acrylic painting, physical fragmentation, reconstruction, and, in selected works, hand-applied cotton thread create a layered visual language where every material carries conceptual meaning. Each portrait is not only painted, but physically transformed, making the creative process itself part of the artwork's narrative.
